Melissa Reaux Dismukes
Melissa works with women navigating the changes of midlife, including perimenopause and the empty nest, whose anxiety, irritability, and exhaustion make them feel like they've lost touch with themselves. Using a holistic, somatic, and EMDR-informed approach, she also supports neurodivergent adults and couples working through disconnection, helping the nervous system settle so lasting change actually takes hold.
When the woman you used to be feels harder to find
You look like you're holding it all together. You go to work, take care of your family, keep up with everyone's needs, and somehow keep the plates spinning. But underneath it all, you're exhausted. You're more irritable than you used to be, your patience feels thinner, and the woman you used to be feels harder to find.
“These seasons are not signs that you're falling apart. They are opportunities to reconnect with yourself in a new way and create a life that feels more authentic, balanced, and fulfilling.”
Many of my clients are women navigating the changes of midlife, including perimenopause, the empty nest, and other life transitions that leave them wondering, "Why don't I feel like myself anymore?" Maybe your anxiety has gotten worse, your emotions feel unpredictable, you're constantly overwhelmed, or you've spent so many years taking care of everyone else that you're no longer sure what you need.
I believe these seasons are not signs that you're falling apart. They are opportunities to reconnect with yourself in a new way and create a life that feels more authentic, balanced, and fulfilling.
My approach is holistic, somatic, and trauma-informed. Instead of only talking about your stress, we will work with your nervous system, your body, your relationships, your habits, and the beliefs you hold about yourself. Together, we will uncover what is keeping you stuck, process experiences that continue to affect your life today, and build practical tools that help you feel calmer, more present, and more connected to the person you want to be.
I also work with couples who love each other but find themselves caught in the same painful patterns. Maybe every disagreement turns into the same argument, communication feels impossible, or you have started to feel more like roommates than partners. Together, we will slow those moments down, explore what is happening beneath the surface, and understand how each person's experiences, nervous system, and attachment patterns shape the relationship. My goal is to help both partners feel seen, heard, and understood while building emotional safety, healthier communication, and a stronger, more secure connection that lasts long after therapy ends.
For clients carrying the effects of trauma or painful life experiences, I incorporate EMDR to help the brain reprocess memories that continue to fuel anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and deeply rooted beliefs such as "I'm not enough," "I'm too much," "I'm a failure," or "I don't matter." As those memories become less emotionally charged, there is space for healthier beliefs to take root, greater self-compassion, and the freedom to respond to life from the present instead of the past. EMDR is not about forgetting what happened. It is about helping those experiences stop defining how you see yourself and what you believe you are capable of.
My goal is to create a space where you can finally exhale, understand yourself with compassion, and leave each session feeling more grounded, more confident, and more connected to the life you want to live.

You guide what needs attention. Melissa brings EMDR, somatic tools, and couples work to meet you exactly where you are, whether that is midlife, a relationship, or both.
